MAY 6 – THE BIG DAY

May 6, 2021. A BIG day for Canadian immigration and for a lot of temporary residents.

Canada is prepared to grant 90,000 permanent resident status to eligible applicants. (Essential workers, Healthcare workers, International Students, and French speakers who are living in the country)

Why is it such a big deal?
 
The low eligibility requirements, you can include your family in the application, and Canada needs to fill a shortage in the outsourced workforce that the pandemic has created.
 

What’s going on?

Starting May 6,  Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will open 6 new programs that will grant Permanent Resident status to 90,000 eligible, essential workers, international student graduates and French speakers.

The new programs apply to eligible temporary residents who want to immigrate to any Canadian province or territory other than Quebec.

Can I include my family in the application?

Yes. Applicants may also include their eligible family members on their applications, regardless of whether they are in Canada or not.


Cap and Deadline?

The new programs are only open for a limited amount of time until November 5, 2021 or until the intake caps are reached.


How many INTERNATIONAL STUDENT GRADUATES?

Canada will accept up to 40,000 recent international student graduates as permanent residents.


How many ESSENTIAL WORKERS IN HEALTHCARE?

Canada will accept up to 20,000 health care workers as permanent residents.


How many in ESSENTIAL WORKERS IN OTHER OCCUPATIONS?

Canada will grant 30,000 permanent resident status to those with work experience in essential occupations across all National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels.

Language requirements? 

The minimum language requirement is a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 in English or French in all proficiencies.

Eligibility for Workers in Healthcare?

You need to have at least one year of eligible full-time work experience within the three years leading up to your application date

or

An equivalent of 1,560 hours of part-time experience in an eligible occupation

Eligibility for Essential Workers in other occupations?

See above.

 

Eligibility for International student graduates?

You need to have graduated from a post-secondary (designated learning institution) after January 2017 and before you submit an application.

You need to be working at the time of submission.

Programs must be no less than eight months in duration.

* For a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) or an Attestation of Vocational Specialization (AVS), each program of study must be at least 900 hours in length and the combined program of study must be at least 1,800 hours.
